Tuesday Funnies
Ever notice how when you say the word "gullible" out loud really, really slowly, it can sound a lot like you're saying "gymnastics"?

On this day in history, one year ago....
Edie's had flyaway issues on and off; and recently prior to her last couple of meets, had it really bad to a point where she was doing crazy stuff like this, on her 2nd to last workout before California Classic:
We managed to work through it that night.
After that weekend's meet, although her fear issues had subsided and her confidence was back, she was still having problems with consistency and good technique.
She got it back under control prior to State Championships, and scored a 9.575 on bars today.
Digging through my archives, I found this, from one year ago to the day:
That was her, right before level 7 State Championships. Around December or January of 2012, I had started hand-spotting her a lot to fix a flyaway that was sailing clear out toward the other side of the gym.
It required a lot of patience and hands-on work to fix and correct...
It might be time to go back to some of that in preparation for regionals.
I think if she can manage her head and shape on her giants with a stronger tap action, that should, in itself, fix her flyaway.
And then I will enjoy another Tebow-like moment:

"Close your crack!"
The other week (Thursday, I think it was), "E" told me something that I had no idea I had said.
I was standing on a block getting ready to spot Cara on her layout flyaway. "E" did her dismount before her. As "E" was about to walk away, I asked Edie to push the 8" mat (the one they dismount onto) in, because there was a gap between it and the 4" mat under the bar. "E" started laughing as she did as I asked. I wondered what was so funny. "E" was reminiscing over something I apparently said to her on a prior occasion: ""E", close your crack." "E" said that's why she was laughing so hysterically last time (I neither remember the incident nor her laughter over it).
I honestly think she misheard me. I'm sure I probably said something more like, "Close the crack."
I will say this, though: Sometimes, the girls really do need to squeeze their cheeky-buns in the middle of executing skills.
