Tracee Talavera on The Tonight Show, August 10, 1979- 40 years ago!

I've long seen Johnny Carson footage of Tracee Talavera doing gymnastics on The Tonight Show; but I've never seen the entire interview before, uploaded by Paul Marsh.

I believe Kurt Thomas made a couple of Tonight Show appearance; but I wonder if any film footage has survived the passage of time because I've never seen any of it.  Maybe someone out there has a VHS tape of Kurt's guest appearance and will one day see the light of day on YouTube.

Video blurb:

Volvo Gymnastics Stability and Precision?

Rick links to this:

If I had the gymnasts that could do it, I'd stage it so the one Van Damming would be standing on gymnasts who could show off the stability and precision of gymnastics body shape tension hollow walking.

I Just Got Pantene-rolled!

How on earth do you tie together a feel-good drama to a hair product?

Well.....kinda like this:

That is one long commercial!  If you're rolling your eyes, just look at it like this:  At least it wasn't an ad promoting the virtues of soft drinks or fast food.

Perfection is Possible

"When you're a young gymnast, the bar has already been set very high. Nadia was the first to show the World a Perfect 10.. not once, but seven times. She reminds me that if I work hard enough, there's a chance that for just one moment, Perfection is Possible."

A long time ago....in a galaxy far, far away....

Someone used to be able to do flairs....

I don't remember the exact year, but maybe 2 or 3 years post collegiate career.  UCLA assistant men's coach Yefim Furman and myself were personal (gymnastics fitness) trainers for Laura's business, Energy Unlimited.

This appearance on the Home Show was to help promote the business and the virtues of participating in adult gymnastics.

The Japanese are Sooooo Weird....

....in a good way, of course:

Here we have vaulting:

About the show:

"Masquerade" is one of the most popular TV shows produced by NTV Japan. People from all walks of life participate in the contest to present their unique performances. In addition to preparing their own costumes and props, contestants exert themselves physically and creatively to bring forth their best possible performance. We hope you enjoy their brilliant works.

Check out some other videosThis one isn't so much humorous as it is well-choreographed.  Here's one involving rhythmic gymnastics.  Meh...

This one, however, is pretty clever:

Matrix Pong is the well-known one.

Johnny Carson tries a V-Seat and a Straddle-L

Photo taken from the book "Kurt Thomas on Gymnastics"

Johnny Carson will always be the king of late night comedy.

Apparently, Kurt Thomas had appeared 5 times on the Tonight Show.  I"ve never seen any of those appearances. I also have never seen footage of Dick Cavett appearing on the Tonight Show to do a pommel horse routine (He's a former Nebraska state champion).  But I remember seeing this Tracee Talavera (12 years old?) appearance in "Best of Carson" repeats:
