Where would we be without Velcro?

Wade Petersen was mentioning to me about how he was thinking for a way to show square hips with posts sticking out the sides.  So I came up with this:

Also thought about maybe attaching flashlights or laser pointers to the sides (Al Luber used to talk to the kids about pretending like they had headlights).

And the bottom idea I had a couple of years ago and had bought the material but never executed the idea until this past week:

Idea for arm placement on split jumps

On leaps and jumps, arms can sometimes go every which way but the pathway most desired.  Here's a drill for split jumps to check arm placement by Cleveland Gymnastics:

Of course you'll also have to take into account the peak height of the gymnast's shoulders when she jumps.  (^_^)

...And that's your choreography minute!

The girls used to sometimes play a "game" during their dance throughs, where teammates would stand at different parts of the floor and the gymnast going through her routine would have to make eye contact with each person (who would then sit down).  I believe there were other variations on this, that they did.

One gymnast who stands out in my mind for natural presence in her floor routine is Izzy.  She sells her routine very well, in my opinion.

Warm-up and Ballet

It's interesting to me how different gyms do their warm-ups.

I still don't get the passive stretching, post-warm-up; I chalk it up to tradition.  Some traditions simply die hard.  I suppose since they are doing ballet and not vault and hard tumbling right after, it's not a big deal.
